How warm is this padded jacket?

This padded jacket, worn as a 3rd layer, has been certified for an active comfort temperature of -5°C during a standardised test in a thermal chamber. The model is wearing a synthetic long-sleeved T-shirt and a light fleece underneath. It works with a simulated 5 km/h wind. We have also tested this model in static mode. The comfort temperature is +5°C in this case.

The advantages of a duck down and feather filling

The filling power of down has 3 advantages for mountain sports:- Thermal insulation thanks to the air trapped in the down and feathers.- Ultra-lightweight: down is lighter than synthetic wadding while offering the same degree of warmth. This saves even more weight in your backpack.- Ultra-compressible.

Inflating power of down/feather filling

The fill power is a measure of the down's thermal insulation capacity and its potential to "trap" air. It is expressed in CUIN (cubic inches). Down with a higher fill power (higher CUIN number) will occupy more space, trap more air and provide greater thermal insulation. For this down jacket with its 85% down and 15% feathers filling, the fill power is guaranteed to be 800 CUIN or more (international standard).

What does the rds certification mean?

RDS or “Responsible Down Standard” is a worldwide certification issued by an independent organisation to volunteer brands. This standard enables us to guarantee the origin of the feathers in accordance with our commitment to use responsible materials. Our suppliers commit to using only feathers from geese and ducks raised for their meat and slaughtered before down and feathers are collected.

Water-repellent property of component (not to be confused with waterproofing)

The water repellent property of a fabric is its ability to make water run off its surface without absorbing it. This prevents the fabric from swelling, and keeps it lightweight and warm. The fabric of this down jacket is water repellent, however, we recommend that you wear a waterproof jacket over it in the rain. The fabric is made water-repellent by treating (PFC-free) its outer surface, however this property may deteriorate with use. We recommend that you restore it after each wash.

How to care for a down jacket?

The down jacket can be worn throughout the winter and will certainly need to be washed. But the less you wash it, the more it will retain its thermal insulation and water repellency. Our advice:1/Machine wash with a detergent suitable for down or technical garments, at 30°, with 2 or 3 tennis balls. Gentle spin cycle.2/ tumble dry with 2 or 3 tennis balls, and repeat 2 or 3 times until it is completely dry.

How to restore the water-repellent properties?

Once you have cleaned your padded jacket, we recommend you use a water-repellent reactivator spray to preserve the hydrophobic properties of the outer fabric. This renews the fabric’s water repellent properties and optimises its performance throughout the lifespan of your garment.

A snag? this is how to repair your own jacket

A tear on a padded jacket can happen when trekking! The good news is that it can be repaired with a repair patch so the tear doesn’t get any bigger and the feathers escape. Don't you feel at ease carrying out this repair yourself? Don't worry! Some in-store Decathlon workshops offer a repair service to mend your padded jacket using a heat-bonded patch.

Down jacket developed using continual improvement methods

The trek 100 down jacket has been improved over the years thanks to all the customer reviews. Thanks for sharing! From winter 2020, the pink model (like the other light colours) will benefit from very light-coloured feathers and down. This will prevent any visually unpleasant dark areas on the down jacket when it is wet.

Great jacket.

My wife is a chilly willy and she loves her new jacket, as normal you need to size up, other than that it’s fantastic.

Value for money jacket

This jacket folds down really small (into it's own pocket) and is ridiculously lightweight so carrying it around when not in use is not a problem. I've been wearing it with a couple of layers underneath during the British winter in temperatures roughly between -5 degrees Centigrade to 5 degrees centigrade and find it to be warm enough. I imagine with only a light layer underneath it will also prove to be useful for much of the year. It is water repellent and so far has kept me dry except in one horrendous torrential downpour I got caught in for about 30 minutes where water had got through in a couple of areas around the upper arm seams and one of the pockets I had left unzipped. Given the excellent price of this jacket I have been very satisfied with it's performance so far.

Lightweight down jacket

Just what I was looking for, something very lightweight but warm. On mild days it’s fine on its own but on chilly days better with a fleece or wooly jumper. Can be rolled up and and packed away within its own pocket, so very handy for travelling or hiking
