How to measure tubular tyre wear
To measure the wear on your road tubular tyres and to know when they need replacing, you need to inspect the tread. Signs of wear include: - tread starting to fray- the appearance of a series of micro cracks- low tread depth- the carcass becomes visible. All these signs indicate the tubular tyre is worn and needs replacing for safe riding.
How to remove your tubular tyre
To remove your tubular tyre, deflate the inner tube until no more air comes out.You can then pull off the tubular tyre from the rim by pressing on it from the side. If you are unable to remove the tyre, use a small flat head screwdriver as a lever between the tyre and rim to remove it without damaging it.
How to clean the rim before gluing in the tubular tyre
Using a cloth, rub the rim with solvent to remove the glue.Wipe dry with a cloth.Once the rim is clean, you can move on to the gluing step.
How to glue in a tubular tyre
Apply a smooth and even layer of glue using a brush.Allow to dry for 24 hours before applying a second layer.Inflate your tubular tyre to 2 bars then apply a thin layer directly on the tyre using a brush. Allow to dry for about 10 minutes.Insert the valve into the rim, ease the tubular tyre into place, maintaining slight tension. Once inserted, check that the tubular tyre is centred. To adjust it, press on it with your fingers and roll it around the rim until it is properly centred.
How to inflate your tubular tyre correctly
To remove your tubular tyre, deflate the inner tube until no more air comes out.You can then pull off the tubular tyre from the rim by pressing on it from the side. If you are unable to remove the tyre, use a small flat head screwdriver as a lever between the tyre and rim to remove it without damaging it.
Tip from the pros
When inflating your tyre, make sure you inflate it to the suitable pressure for the terrain you will be riding on and, above all, the weather conditions you will be riding in.When riding in rainy weather, lower the tyre pressure to increase the tyre's traction. On the other hand, when riding in dry weather, you can increase the pressure for better performance.
