Battle tested in the Himalayas

I took this backpack on the Annapurna Sanctuary trail in The Himalayas. The trek was 9 days in total and I wore the backpack between 3 and 7 hours per day. It is extremely comfortable, especially when worn high up my back. I used a water bladder which is easily accesible. The side buckles made it easy to access my waterproof jacket and I kept a spare water bottle in the back outside pocket. The side pockets in the waistband were very useful for suntan lotion, handwash and my phone. The best aspect of this rucksack is that you can unzip it for easy access to everything inside. I would highly recommend this rucksack, for day treks where you don't need to carry a lot of gear, it easily holds about 12-15 kilos and it is very comfortable. Another outstanding Decathalon product.

Good backpack

It a great small backpack. It's for walking, not great if you want to carrot a lot, but fantastic if you want waterproofs, food, drink, etc.

Excellent

My wife and I had our honeymoon hiking in the Tatra mountains and bought two of these to try them out. Liked the smaller size, good weight, strong structure and great price. They were perfect. They couldn't have been better. And a ten year warranty!!

Old and New

I bought this to replace a rucksack that is now showing its age after a few years of abuse. This has all the features that I need, large main compartment, side mesh pockets, pole clips, waist pockets and a full rig harness. The main compartment has the conventional drawstring top but also has a nearly full-length top and tail zip on one side to facilitate easy access. A rigid frame and a mesh back make this bag much more comfortable to use on long hikes and also enable a much easier initial fit. The only minus, the hydration bladder is housed in a sleeve at the back of the main compartment rather than its own dedicated compartment as some of my previous bags. The feed pipe also leaves the bag through an opening on the right side of the main compartment rather than the top/middle which restricts your choice of layout but other than that I can't fault it so far.

Great Design

A daysack with some really innovative design features at half the price I anticipated paying for the quality. Really pleased with how comfortable and practical it is.

Useful and sturdy

Very useful back. Not the most spacious at 20L, but it keeps its rigid shape. Useful for day walking trips or running to/from work.

Don't do the west highland way with this.

Inexperienced hiker/west highland way/4 days – not what it was designed for! Tent/sleeping bag/air mattress/food/water/fleece/light rain jacket/3.5 L water/sundries = 11 kg (no stove) Bad things, straps of open weave material very little padding became very sore/uncomfortable after 15+ miles – would be fine on something shorter/more vigorous though. Vented back is not perfect because heat can’t escape out the sides very well. I should’ve bought the Forclaz Trek 700 50L - has everything this doesn't but only 900 g heavier.

Great day sack with good ventilation

It looks great and is about as comfortable as a 20L sack can be with stuff in it. I'd only wish for a slightly longer back so the hip fins actually sat on my hips rather than on my back. I've used it for single pitch climbing and can fit my trad rack, shoes, harness and a waterproof inside. The rope I keep outside, under the lid and down each side strap. My helmet just gets clipped to the back.

Good functional daysack

Decathlon have produced a very good daysack which has compression straps and a mesh back. Used it a couple of times and it is comfy. Well worth the money IMHO.

Nice bit of kit

Really like the look and function of this rucksack. I haven’t used in anger yet should can’t comment on a long trek. I am a little concerned about the lumber support - doesn’t feel that comfortable but will play with the strapping system (currently giving it 3, but if I can sort the lumber issue it’s be a 4 or 5, though can’t comment on longevity yet)

Major flaw part 2

I totally agree with Jonathan's comment. I have the old version of this and it's excellent and very comfy. I thought the review about the 4 straps might have been a personal comment but I was wrong. Went to buy one today and I totally agree the 4 side straps just dig into the lower back. I cannot believe this rucksack got into production unless there is a faulty batch? I think the quality of this product looks good but major flaw in the lower back strap design. I hope the new design fixes this problem as the previous version is great and still going strong. This was for my wife.

Hi Neil,

Thank you for your feedback. The reason that the hip belt has four straps which attach to the backpack (rather than just two larger straps) is to provide space for ventilation. However, if you feel this design results in an uncomfortable fit we will pass this information onto the brand as the bag is being re-designed for summer 2018.

If you remain dissatisfied with the backpack you may still exchange it at any of our stores. If you purchased the product on our website you can return it by post by following the instructions on the webpage: https://www.decathlon.co.uk/return-order-by-post.html

Major Flaw

I would have to agree with other reviews here. This looks like an excellent bag and there are so many great features on it but it has one immense and deal-breaking flaw. On the waist belt there are four textile bands (two on each side) that connect the waist belt to lower back pack. These bands run towards the centre of the bag, meaning that if you put any weight in the bag then these 4 bands act as massive pressure points on the lumbar region of your back. The bag weight is not distributed evenly across your lower back and you will end up with four red marks on your back where the bag’s weight is being transmitted through these bands. This is what happened to me. It blows my mind how any company would design a hiking bag like this. They have clearly gone for aesthetics over functionality. If you look at similar bags like the Berghaus Freeflow you will notice there are no lumbar pressure points on the bag. If you are just using it for very light stuff where not much weight will be transmitted to your lower back then you will likely not have a problem.

Lab tests

We complete laboratory tests to certify components: fabrics, buckles, straps, foam, zips... for example, for a fabric: resistance to wear tearing washing water-resistance and colour-fastness under UV rays. Then a test on the finished product that simulates the kind of treatment to which it will be subjected over several years, to assess the strength of the assembly:the backpack is weighted then placed on a dummy which then reproduces the movement of fast walking over thousands of cycles.

10-year technical partnership guarantee

protect your belongings in case of rain. The tests focused on components, seams and the end product. As a result of these tests, Quechua can guarantee all bags tested for a duration of 10 years from the date of purchase indicated on the sales receipt.

10-year guarantee, conditions

The guarantee covers any backpack faults, except those caused by normal wear and tear and improper use. This special 10-year guarantee can only be granted upon presentation of the product and receipt. If the product is covered by the warranted, it will be repaired or exchanged for free. This commercial guarantee does not affect any statutory guarantees that are applicable in the country of purchase.

How is bag volume measured?

The volume of each backpack is measured using a standard method: we fill the main compartment as well as each pocket with little balls. Then we empty these balls into a graduated container, which gives the equivalent volume in litres.

How to adjust your backpack?

1 - Loosen all the straps (straps, hip belt, load adjuster straps). 2 - Put the backpack on. 3 - For backpacks with a capacity of 50 L or more, place the hip belt correctly (it should sit over the pelvis) and tighten it. For smaller backpacks, the belt should be placed around the waist. 4 -Tighten the shoulder straps. 5 - Adjust the load adjuster straps as needed.

How to pack a backpack?

Put your bedding at the bottom. Put heavy gear near to the back. Pack your clothes around these items. Keep your waterproof jacket and/or fleece close to hand. Place small items for daily use (sun cream, map, glasses etc.) in the pockets. The water bladder will be placed in the compartment provided.

Environmental measures

Décathlon and Quechua have chosen to inform you of the environmental impact of its hiking backpack products over the entire life cycle. This work follows on from an experiment conducted in 2011 alongside the French Department of Ecology. ABCDE are provided to compare the Quechua backpacks only. Details of this project and calculation methods are available at www.oxylane.com/20/demarche-environnementale
