Comfortable but heavy

I bought this bike beacuse I was looking for something comfortable, which it is. After two years constant use the bike has also proved to be very durable. The only issue I have with the bike is that it is heavy. So heavy in fact that I'm usually passed by mostly everyone. Fortunately most of the roads I use the bike on are flat, but steep hills do cause problems, and I tend to have to get off and push. I wouldn't buy this particualr bike again, instead I'd pay a bit extra and go for the aluminimum framed version instead.

Great bike for a great price

Very good quality bike, quite heavy, but rides smoothly and is very comfortable. Definitely can recommend. I'm 5.8' and L/XL is a perfect size.

Great Bike. But what pump do I need for this bike?

My 3rd B'TWN!

Outstanding quality & price. Decathlon .. My first choice for a new bike!

Thank you very much for your review!

Fantastic bike. Only let down by one thing.

Have been riding this bike to work every day for 6 weeks now. Absolutely love it, a pleasure to ride and fantastic value for money. Only bad point is the lights, I find them unusable they are that loud. Leaving them off would be an improvement to the bike.

Like many others, I am in love with this bike!

Perfect heavy duty city bike that looks and feels just great. I love that it's heavy and sturdy, doesn't feel heavy when driving it. Gears are enough for me. The only thing that bothers me a little is that the dynamo is kind of loud.

You get a lot for your money!

A large, heavy bike but smooth and comfortable and really good value for money. I have started riding this on my daily six mile round trip commute. Large size and wide handlebars make it harder getting through traffic, but upright position means you see a lot more. The six gears are too close together and dont give much help going up hills, but I have reached 18 mph still pedaling on the flat. Some nice touches - the unusual spring attachment to the front wheel helps keep the bike straight when starting off, the kick stand is useful and the rear rack is far enough away from the saddle to avoid your legs hitting any pannier bags. The dynamo is surprisingly bright and the wide saddle, comfortable hand grips and big tyres make for a comfortable ride. This is not a bike for long distance riding or riding up big hills, but is good fun to ride, and certainly an eye catcher. Great value for money too!

Really nice bike!

Just been on a 20 mile jaunt to check out my new ride, and am pretty impressed. Comfortable to ride, and the little features make a big difference - the built in lights, racks, and comfy handgrip things are awesome, and it feels solid and sturdy when riding it. One minor thing - this is not a fast bike. The gears are defo for city riding, so bear that in mind when choosing what to get. I'm looking forward to riding more on this, and I'd say it is amazingly cheap for what you get. Yay!

Heavy and slow

I am very disappointed. I wanted a nice city bike to go fast to places and it turned up to be the opposite. After using it 5 times realised it took me longer with this bike because is too heavy and too big (something that in the store they told me it was my size but it obviously isn’t). It’s too late to return it because bike that are being use cannot be returned. I’m trying it to sell it second hand because it hasn’t been a good purchase and also it’s too much money. Also the gears are not very different from each other and they don’t help you at al in hills or go faster downhill.

Elops 520 Town Bike Raised Frame

The best bike I have ever ridden. The raised frame makes the ride position extremely comfortable, especially for a tall person. It is effortless to ride. It is robust and smooths over holes in the road with ease thanks to the fantastic tyres. And it looks cool. This bike actually makes me smile when I ride it, it is brilliant. I would suggest that the user manual should be more comprehensive in terms of construction and maintenance of the bike (eg how to use the dynamo?). But the bike itself is fabulous.

Slops Town Bine

I was very pleased with fast and efficient service and extremely pleased with the bike itself, which was perfect for my son.

Great town bike

Very comfy and practical bike. Looks smart too. I like the built in dynamo lights (though a system to keep them lit when you stop moving would be good). I definitely needed a large at 5'10".

Also reklamiert! Kein Problem, neues Rad bekommen.

Additional Product informations

  • 100% Steel

Why opt for a high frame?

"Provides improved stiffness and propulsion during rides. With its specific hybrid bike geometry, the steel frame with a high standover height lets you comfortably ride with a straight back.It also has a lifetime warranty!And the sizing? S/M : 1 m 55 - 1 m 75, 28-inch wheels ; L / XL: 1 m 75 - 1 m 95, 28-inch wheels."

Your Elops 520 bike has 6 speeds on an external derailleur for improved versatility on reasonable inclines. Hills and accelerating after a red light become child's play.

For efficient, safe braking, we have equipped your bike with aluminium front and rear caliper V-brakes.

Handlebar / stem / steering

"The Elops 520 is equipped with a steering spring in addition to steel handlebars with ergonomic geometry and an aluminium damper stem (for lighter weight). The result? You are more comfortable while riding and the handlebars do not swing to the side once you lean the bike on the stand."

A steel seat post and a comfortable seat:

"The steel seat post further absorbs vibrations and the screw-in seat clamp collar limits the risk of theft. And the seat? This is our favourite part: after numerous tests, we created this wide seat with hard foam adapted at the pressure points of the glutes on the seat. Why this one? Because it is by far the most comfortable!"

The Elops 520 has 28-inch wheels with a single-wall rim and raw aluminium spokes. To protect your spokes and avoid flat tyres, we recommend inflating your tyres to a pressure between 3.5 and 4.5 bars. The wheel is attached to a hub with nuts to lower the risk of theft while riding in the city.

"We chose very wide tyres (45mm) so that you can ride comfortably in town: a smooth rolling bike that can easily drive over small obstacles along the way. Not even cobblestones, sewer drains, potholes, or tramway rails can make you lose your balance! Inner tubes are equipped with car valves, you can inflate your tires at a service station. To avoid flat tires, we recommend keeping your tyres at a constant pressure between 3.5 and 4.5 bars (depending on your weight)

Accessories and fittings to make your journey easier:

"We added a couple of details to make your urban rides easier:The stand is on the rear wheel to stay out of the way while pedalling. The pannier rack can hold 27kg (the standard for supporting a baby carrier) and the rack can hold 7kg.With the front and rear LED lighting (powered by bottle dynamo), you can say goodbye to batteries: light extends to 30 m in front of and 150m behind you.The bike also has mudguards and a chain guard so that you can arrive at work spotless."

"You can add VIOO CLIP lights (sold separately) to the ends of your handlebars to be visible from every angle. We have also added space for a frame lock and a folding lock.Your bike is compatible with the entire B'Twin range of travel bags so that you can ride hands-free.Finally, we took special care to create a pannier rack that would meet all standards so that you can mount your baby carrier in good conscience."

A bike designed for everyday use in town

"Obviously, we wanted to offer a beautiful bike. But also a comfortable, practical, reliable bike! For example:A slightly curved fork for absorbing the vibrations of cobblestones.Double elastic band in the basket for holding your lock.A Z-type reflector on the pannier rack for you to stay visible in all situations.Come try this bike to discover its abundance of carefully designed details!"

We are proud to present...

"...a bike that we entirely redesigned ourselves. And in order to get there, there was a 4-person design team, many discussions with components engineers, mock-ups, prototypes, and huge numbers of tests over the course of 4 years. And in the end, we are thrilled to offer a bike that is both elegant and simply comfortable to make all of your urban outings more joyful :)"

One final tip before getting on the road?

"Fanny, product engineer of the Elops 520, gives advice on how to best utilise your city bike:""While travelling on a bike is a routine at first, it can quickly become an escape. And caring for your bike is similar to caring for a car: take it to the shop! To fully take advantage of those moments of escape, my advice is to regularly service your tyres, brakes, and drivetrain."""
